Southwark residents and community groups are being urged to start thinking about their neighbourhood and how they want to improve it, as Southwark Council’s Cleaner Greener Safer Programme gets underway.The window for applications to the council starts on October 29 2011 with a closing date of January 6 2012. The Southwark Portrait Bench

Choose the people that represent your community

The Portrait Bench, part of a unique national public art project, is a simple bench with three life-size effigies of local characters chosen by you to represent the local culture and history. The bench will be installed along the new walking and cycling route between Camberwell & Rotherhithe via South Bermondsey, which is part of Sustrans’ national project bringing the National Cycle Network into the heart of communities across the UK.

The planned investment of £1million over 10 years by the Big Lottery to build stronger communities in South Bermondsey is due to begin in 2012. The Partnership has an important role to play in overseeing the investment and our boundaries have been extended to include the Big Lottery’s priority area.

Meet the Lion

An event to celebrate the unveiling of the Lion statue in the Blue will be held in the Market Place on Saturday 16 July from 11.30am to 3pm. Activities include street performers, a steel band and craft workshops.


South Bermondsey Partnership Timeline

The South Bermondsey Partnership Timeline will be available to view at a showcase event at Arundel Court Supported Housing Unit on June 29 from 10am to 1pm. The Timeline has also recently been on display at Ilderton School. Further details available from Forid Ahmed on 0207 525 5540.
